Weekly Goal Update: May 21 - 27

May 21 - 27

There were lots of celebrations happening this week at work: an end of the school year appreciation party, an ice cream social, a good bye party, and a double birthday celebration as well.  I tried to find a happy middle ground where I could still participate in the festivities without going overboard.  I think I did pretty well!

1. Make healthier food choices.
 I wasn’t 100% perfect with every choice I made this week, but I really tried to find a balance of enjoying food while not overindulging.  I ate a lot of fruit again and this week included watermelon, grapes, mandarins, and bananas.  Fruit is so yummy!

2. Exercise five days a week for thirty minutes (or a total of 150 minutes per week, 2.5 hours).
 Still no treadmill this week!  I’m getting really annoyed with how long it’s taking to get here.  Meanwhile, I’ve started using the stopwatch on my phone to try to motivate myself to keep walking.  I got in way more exercise this week just by tracking the time.

Sunday: 45 minute walk
Monday: 21 minute walk
Tuesday: 30 minute walk; 11 minute walk
Wednesday: 58 minute walk
Thursday: 20 minute walk
Friday: 27 minute walk
Saturday: 38 minute walk

Total: 4 hours, 10 minutes

3. Get 10,000 steps six days a week.
 Another week of 10,000 steps every day!  My best day was Wednesday with 12,384 steps and my total for the week was 75,599 steps.

4. Go to sleep earlier.
 Goal: Weeknights between 9:00PM and 9:30PM
My actual average bed time for weeknights was 9:16:49PM.  After working six days last week, I was so tired that all I wanted to do all week was sleep.

🚫  Goal: Weekends between 10:00PM and 10:30PM
My actual average bed time for weekends was 11:01:35PM.  I guess when the weekend came I was ready to live it up!  I’m so happy it’s a long weekend but I need to try to go to bed earlier tonight so I don’t throw off my sleep schedule too much.

5. Leave some wiggle room.
 I didn’t remember to take a picture of all the junk I ate this week because most of it was at all the parties I went to and I was too busy socializing to take photos.  I passed on the cake and cupcakes but I indulged myself with: diet soda, pizza, a brownie, ice cream, and a few lunches out.

6. Progress towards goal?
 I seriously do not understand how weight works because I’m quite surprised to see that I’ve lost a good bit this week.  Although I guess maybe the extra exercise could have contributed to that?  Who knows?!

Outfits of the Week: May 22 - 26

More layering this week!  Hot outdoors and cold air conditioning inside means I'm always grabbing a sweater or blazer to put in when I get chilly.  And sometimes when I wear a dress I even bring a blanket because the office gets so cold.  ❄️ ⛄️

I swear this dress doesn’t have stains on the front.  It’s just water that I splashed on myself and didn’t have time to dry before taking these pictures and dashing out the door.  #mondaymorningslob  On the plus side, this dress was super comfortable and professional for a day when I definitely would have preferred to stay in bed and wear pajamas.

Not much to say about this outfit other than that I love the fit of these tie neck blouses.  I have several different colors and patterns and I love every one and wish Papaya would make more.  I’d probably buy them all!

It was raining cats and dogs this day but whatever these shoes are made out of kept my feet dry.  But the curls in my hair didn’t fair as well.  By the end of day, they fell into a nice soft wave but the outfit held up with no issues at all.

I had a different outfit picked out for this day but when I went to get dressed I just felt like wearing a dress so I threw this one on.  Easy peasy and oh so pretty.  I need to remember to wear my dresses more but they are currently tucked into a hard to see area of my closet and I honestly just forget about them.

This pink blouse is as happy as I am that it's Friday.  But it's so wide in the torso, I think maybe I should take it in a little?  But that requires effort and I haven't had much energy for that lately.  For now, it will stay a little big on me.

Weekly Goal Update: May 14 - 20

May 14 - 20
This past week though… ugh.  I worked twelve hours on Wednesday and six hours on Saturday and I am just so done.  And being so busy led to some not so hot choices (lots of caffeine and eating out) but somehow I ended the week better than I started with weight.  Not really sure how that worked but I guess I’ll take it.  Let’s break it down.

1. Make healthier food choices.
 While every choice I made this week wasn’t the best (pizza and french fries, I’m talking to you), I did make an effort to snack on more fruit and less junk.

2. Exercise five days a week for thirty minutes (or a total of 150 minutes per week, 2.5 hours).
 I’m really hoping our treadmill gets delivered this week!  It’s been so hard to get in exercise without it, especially on days where I’m sitting in meetings all day at work and can’t get many steps in during the day.  But I persevered and was still able to just squeeze in enough exercise to make my goal this week.

Sunday: 50 minute walk
Monday: 21 minutes on the stationary bike
Tuesday: 16 minute walk
Wednesday: 13 minute walk
Thursday: 10 minute walk
Friday: 11 minute walk
Saturday: 7 minute run; 28 minutes of yoga

Total: 2 hours, 36 minutes

3. Get 10,000 steps six days a week.
 Ten thousand steps every day this week!  And on Tuesday, I got 13,222 steps since I had a busy day at work and had to run errands after work also.  I racked up a total of 76,815 steps for the week.

4. Go to sleep earlier.
🚫  Goal: Weeknights between 9:00PM and 9:30PM
My actual average bed time for weeknights was 9:55:06PM.  Just when I thought I had gotten into a groove of going to bed early, a crazy busy week ruins it.  I really need to get back on track for the coming week.  I really felt tired all week which led to me drinking a lot more soda for the caffeine and also making some bad choices with food.  When I’m tired I just feel like it’s harder to have the will power to resist junk.

  Goal: Weekends between 10:00PM and 10:30PM
My actual average bed time for weekends was 10:05:52PM.  Although this was kind of silly this week since I worked Saturday.  I only had one actual weekend night and I was so tired I had no issues going to bed early.

5. Leave some wiggle room.
 This week I switched up the Arizona tea for diet soda.  All the sodas I drank aren’t even pictured here along with several days of pizza, M&Ms, and some irresistible French fries.  Not the best of choices.

6. Progress towards goal?

 I’m not sure how this happened but I somehow managed to end the week lighter than last week.  Coincidence?  Because it doesn’t seem like it was related to the food choices I made.  Either way, I’ll take it!

Outfits of the Week: May 15 - 19

This week was all about layering.  As it gets hotter here in Florida, I'm finding myself switching back and forth between my layers often.  In the air conditioning, a sweater or blazer comes out but as soon as I have to walk outside (which is anywhere from 2-10 times a day) the outer layer comes off.  So I thought it might be nice to start sharing both looks.

I started out the week in a cute skirt this time.  And it turned out to be my favorite outfit!  This is a new blouse and I just love the way the fabric drapes.  It looks lovely tucked in or free flowing.

What I thought I was going to be doing this day at work and what I ended up doing turned out to be totally different things but this outfit worked for both hanging out getting work done on my laptop and also packing and organizing materials in the warehouse as well.  Multi-purpose!

This day I had to wear pink for an after work family event and I also needed to be professional for a meeting early in the day.  And I knew it was going to be a long day (over twelve hours, ugh) so I wanted something comfortable.  Enter in simple pieces with a pop of pink in the cardigan.  It did the trick!

This outfit was built around the pattern in the blouse.  I pulled the navy out with the blazer and the darker rose color with the cabernet pants.  I love how it worked out!

If this shirt looks familiar, it might be from one of the times like this when I used to wear it often.  But in my current job and wardrobe situation, it gets way more use as a short sleeve shirt so I altered it to take up the sleeves.  I did this with several of my shirts recently and saved them from the to be donated bag.  It's like getting new shirts for free!

Weekly Goal Update: May 7 - 13

May 7 - 13

Can you believe this was the nineteenth week of 2017?  Crazy!  This year is going by so fast.  Let’s break down my past week and see how things are working out for me with no treadmill to help make it easy to get in my steps.

1. Make healthier food choices.
 I tried to do well with eating this week but again, busy days often lead to bad choices.  But for the most part I did pretty well.  I’m continuing to eat fruits like grapes, watermelon, plums, and pineapple for dessert.  And for the most part, I did okay with the other choices I made as well and I went out to eat less this past week.

2. Exercise five days a week for thirty minutes (or a total of 150 minutes per week, 2.5 hours).
 It was seriously so much more difficult to get exercise in without having a treadmill!  It just goes to show how much I had come to rely on it and how much use I was getting out of it.  Luckily, we ordered a brand new one from (this one) and hopefully it will be here within the next two weeks.  I still have the stationary bike and it works just fine but it’s a much more intense workout and sometimes I just want to go for a jog!  Unfortunately, it’s been in the upper 80s and low 90s already here and it’s just too hot for me to run without getting overheated.  Also, the stationary bike seriously hurts my behind!  I have this cover but I think I need a gel one too.

Sunday: 40 minute walk
Monday: --
Tuesday: 34 minute walk
Wednesday: 20 minute walk 
Thursday: 15 minutes on stationary bike 
Friday: 20 minute walk; 15 minutes on stationary bike
Saturday: 11 minute walk

Total: 2 hours, 35 minutes

3. Get 10,000 steps six days a week.
 I hit and passed this goal with 10,000 steps every day this week!  And thanks to a busy day at work and some exercise on Thursday, I racked up a whopping 15,030 steps.  Go me!

4. Go to sleep earlier.
 Goal: Weeknights between 9:00PM and 9:30PM
My actual average bed time for weeknights was 9:27:39PM.  I feel like I’m finally starting to get into a rhythm of going to bed early on weeknights.  Sometimes I still feel tired because I’m such a light sleeper but it’s a step in the right direction!  And it only took nineteen weeks to get there.  😜

  Goal: Weekends between 10:00PM and 10:30PM
My actual average bed time for weekends was 10:27:13PM.  It looks like maybe I’m starting to get used to going to bed earlier on the weekends too.  I guess it helps that now that the sun is rising earlier, I’m waking up earlier too so I’m tired early.

5. Leave some wiggle room.
 I’ve taken to drinking zero calorie Arizona teas on the days we walk to the store at lunch.  It’s only one dollar, it doesn’t add any calories, and the 23 oz can is lower in sodium than a 20 oz bottle of Diet Dr Pepper (10 mg in 240 mL vs 35mg in 240 mL, respectively).  But the most junky things I had were pizza, frozen yogurt, and a candy bar on one particularly stressful day walking to the store.

6. Progress towards goal?
🚫  How is it that all week my weight is looking pretty good and then on weigh in day, I weigh in higher than I have all the rest of the week?  It’s disheartening!  I know weight can fluctuate quite a bit from day to day but how did I gain a pound from what I weighed two days ago?  Then somehow the next day I weigh 0.6 pounds less?  Argh, it’s so frustrating!

Outfits of the Week: May 8 - 12

I am just so happy that it's the weekend!  This was a long week at work after having to work last Saturday and I'm just really looking forward to a slower pace for the next two days and wearing some comfy clothes all day.  Let's take a look at the outfits I wore to work this week.

After working six days last week, I really wanted to wear pajamas to work this day.  Unfortunately, I knew I had to deliver posters to schools so I had to dress like a grown up.  Not my favorite outfit but anything that wasn't yoga pants wasn't really going to be anyway.

I had planned to wear a cute skirt outfit this day but somehow I was even more tired on Tuesday than I was on Monday.  So I woke up and decided I wanted to wear my black boat shoes and I threw together an outfit that would look okay with them.  Apparently I've worn an almost identical outfit before but let me tell you that I did not care at all when I got dressed that morning.  So tired.

On Wednesday, I finally started feeling slightly less physically tired and more just mentally tired so I decided to put in a little more effort.  And by that I mean I wore a fun belt and a blazer.  That counts as effort, right?

This day I knew I was going to have to be carrying boxes and unpacking them to organize binders of materials for phonics instruction.  So I wanted to wear clothes that were easy to move in and comfortable shoes.  This outfit was professional enough while still being appropriate for some manual labor.  And I also just love the bow that I wore in my hair!  I need to get or make more of these, especially because I love wearing my hair in a bun on hot days like this to keep all of my hair off of my neck and out of my face.

Happy Fri-YAY!  I celebrated by taking myself shopping after work.  I picked up two new shirts for five bucks each!  My plan for the rest of the weekend is to spend my days in shorts and a T-shirt firmly planted on the couch.  But for work today, I wore something nicer than gym clothes.  This cardigan kept me warm inside where the air conditioning was blasting but I shed it any time I had to go outside, as it was quite warm outside today.  Layers are your friend when you live in Florida!

Ipsy Glam Bag: May 2017

My May 2017 Ipsy Glam Bag came two days earlier than the tracking anticipated so I'm excited to share with you what came in my bag today!

This bag is cute but it seems really cheap to me, like the type of thing I could probably buy for two bucks at Dollar General.  I like that it's water resistant so it would make a good bag for traveling with liquids or creams like toothpaste or face wash or something but it's way too small to be a makeup bag in my life, even for an overnight trip.  It's okay I guess but I thought it would be a lot bigger from what I saw in photos.

I'm just kind of meh about this product.  I double checked my Ipsy beauty preferences and I did not check highlight as one of the makeup products I love most so I'm not sure why I've gotten two nearly identical ones so far.  On the plus side, it seems like maybe it will make a nice eyeshadow.  But seriously, this is almost identical to the Elizabeth Mott Show Me Your Glow that I got in last month's bag... and I think I used that one only once.

This product got me pretty excited!  Both of these colors look really pretty in the palette and I think they would both make great one shadow looks.  I'm looking forward to trying this on the eyes tomorrow.  They don't swatch amazingly but I don't judge shadows by their swatches because I've also had ones that swatch well but apply on the lids like garbage.  I hope they are as awesome as I want them to be!

When I first saw that this was going to be in my Ipsy Glam Bag, I wasn't all that excited.  But when I got ahold of it and swatched it.... the heavens opened and the angels sang.  This glides on so smooth and so black but then sets to a matte fantastic finish.  I think it will really last amazingly and I'm so excited to try it out!  Especially after I wore a black liner from Maybelline today that somehow was gone from my inner eyes by day's end for no apparent reason.  I can't wait to try this too!

I love a good lip balm so at first I was excited about this but after trying it out today, I feel like it's nothing special.  I still prefer my ultra inexpensive Carmex Lip Balm and I don't really see what's making this so special to be way more expensive.

This is another item I was really excited when I first saw that it was going to be in my Ipsy Glam Bag but I was just a bit disappointed when I tried it in real life.  It is delightfully soft and feels well made but I'm just confused by the size and shape.  It seems to me to be shaped like a small blush brush.  The brush doesn't really seem dense enough to me to apply foundation but seems too big for highlight and too small for blush.  I need to give it some more tries but my initial impression is that I'm just not sure what it's place would be in my tool kit.

Total Value: $68.60 + bag

Conclusion: I feel like this bag was a really good value for someone... just not necessarily me.  There are only two things that I'm immediately excited about after receiving them.  However, you never know how things will work out so I feel like these items will warrant some reviews after I've had more of a chance to really use them.  If there are any products you'd like reviewed, let me know!  Until then, I'm most excited to try out the Jelly Pong Pong shadow and the Pixi liner.

Weekly Goal Update: April 30 - May 6

April 30 - May 6
This week started out just fine and then got progressively worse as the week went on.  It culminated with the realization Saturday that our treadmill is dead after apparently getting a surge during a storm earlier this week when stupid me left it plugged in.  And did I mention I also had to work on Saturday?  Not a happy camper right now but at least I did okay with my health goals for the week.  Let's break down this eighteenth week of the year.

1. Make healthier food choices.
✅  I did much better this past week at making healthy food choices than the previous week.  I really tried to focus on eating fruit to satisfy my sweet tooth and it honestly worked out really well!  I filled up on grapes, watermelon, bananas, and apples instead of frozen yogurt and chocolate.  And when I was craving a salty treat, I had one of my favorite pre-made salads from Publix: the Kickin' BBQ Style salad.  So good!  A little high in sodium for a salad but probably still better for me than the chips and dip I really want!

2. Exercise five days a week for thirty minutes (or a total of 150 minutes per week, 2.5 hours).
✅  A combination of treadmill, stationary bike, and lunch break walks to the corner store made up my exercise for the past week.  Not looking forward to trying to figure out how to get my steps in now that our treadmill is dead.  πŸ˜”  We're already looking into buying a new one but this time I think we'll skip the used market and just buy the one we want!  And also a high quality surge protector... 😳

Monday: 19 minute walk during lunch & 18 minutes on the treadmill

3. Get 10,000 steps six days a week.
✅  Ten thousand every day this week!  And on Friday, I went above and beyond with 11,739 steps.  Kicked this goal's butt!

4. Go to sleep earlier.
✅  Goal: Weeknights between 9:00PM and 9:30PM
My actual average bed time for weeknights was 9:27:44PM.  After such long and rough days at work, all I wanted to do was go to sleep and start over again the next day so early bedtimes weren't too hard for me.

  Goal: Weekends between 10:00PM and 10:30PM
My actual average bed time for weekends was 10:25:56PM.  Knowing that I had to get up early to go to work on Saturday made going to bed early easier.  And Saturday night I was so tired I was struggling to stay awake even that late.

5. Leave some wiggle room.

✅  This week's wiggle room went to drinks, pizza, and breakfast.  Since we've been walking to the corner store so often on our lunch breaks, I switched up my Diet Dr. Pepper reward for a diet green tea.  It's cheaper, bigger, and better for my stomach without all the carbonation that was giving me some serious heartburn anyway.  Then we had a breakfast with the team one day at Maple Street Biscuit and I opted for the slightly less bad for you plain biscuit with apple butter instead of the biscuits and sausage gravy that everyone else got.

6. Progress towards goal?
✅  This week's choices lead to a weight loss of 0.2 pounds (9.4 pounds total) and hopefully by next Saturday I can get back down to my goal weight.  The next few weeks are going to be a little harder too now that I don't have a working treadmill to rely on for exercise.  πŸ˜­  I still have the stationary bike but it's honestly much harder of a workout and harder to sustain for me than the treadmill.  I can't wait to get a replacement!
