Clothes and Hair

It's been a super busy week at work and next week will be more of the same.  I am exhausted and yearning for my bed!  The picture above is what I wore to work yesterday.  A comfy elastic waist dress, lightweight blazer and sandals and call getting dressed done.  Most of this week and next, I'm cashing out my jean coupons for the year so not too many outfit photos this week.  I'm not even really wearing much makeup these days either because it's so hot I sweat it off so basically, I'll be hit or miss on blogging until my school year is finished out.

And here are some photos I took at 6:00 this morning in an attempt to show you my haircut that I had done Friday.  I guess it doesn't really work to hold the camera with one hand and take the photo.  Sorry, friends.  Like I said, exhausted.

Catching Up

Well, I survived this week of being both a teacher and a professional development leader at the same time.  I worked a ton of hours and I have no desire to do that again any time soon.  I've spent the last few days catching up on all the stuff in my home life that didn't get taken care of because I've been working so much.  I took Friday off for an orthodontist appointment and Friday I also: finally got my hair trimmed and some much needed layers put in, picked up prescriptions, took some documents to the bank to get shredded, took five bags of clothes to Goodwill to donate, paid some bills, went grocery shopping, and even had time to go out to eat with my hubby.  Yesterday I got together with a friend I haven't seen in awhile and today I've been spending the day being a bum on the couch and doing pretty much nothing.  Since I'm off tomorrow for Memorial Day, I plan on doing more of the same then too.  I have a few outfit pictures for you today but mostly, I wore jeans and a school shirt to work this week.

This was Monday's outfit, which was promptly photobombed by my cat again.  You can really tell in this picture how much I was in need of something done with my hair.  Also, that slip desperately needs the straps shortened, as it was peeking out of my dress!

On Tuesday I wore this outfit with a messy, dirty bun.  I was so tired the night before that I didn't even bother to wash my hair.  On Monday, I had worked 6:30 AM to 5:00 PM, then came home and worked for about two hours on my iPad.  Since I needed a haircut anyway, I went with the dirty/messy look.

I'll have to post some pictures of my hair this week but it's pretty much the same length, just with some actual style to it.  I had my stylist cut some face framing layers and about three fingers worth of layers into the bottom.  Now it's just enough to give it some shape and interest.  Enjoy the rest of your weekend!  It's time for me to get back to my full schedule of doing nothing. ;)

I Think I Need This

So yesterday when I was wandering around on Pinterest, I saw this and thought, "By George, this summarizes my life all too perfectly right now!  I think I need this!"  I had to share.  The past week, I'm just happy if I get out the door with clothes covering my bits and pieces and coffee in my system.  I seriously need to stop volunteering myself for projects that create more work for me.  After working 11 hours today and all day Saturday, I'm beginning to lose my mind.  Can anyone relate?

A Day of Rest

I've been working pretty much nonstop since Tuesday when I found out I was going to be spending the whole day presenting about iPads so I finally took today as a day of rest.  My Keynote presentation and iMovie for Wednesday are pretty much ready to go.  Tomorrow at work I need to spend the morning getting my sub plans ready and then going over my presentation a few times after work and I think then I'll be pretty much ready to go.  This week of work coming is going to be absolutely crazy so please understand if posting is hit or miss again.  Even though I've done nothing all day but sit on the couch and search Pinterest, I'm still just mentally exhausted and I'm already looking forward to the coming weekend.  Luckily for me, I have a four day weekend coming up with Monday off for Memorial Day and I had to take Friday off for a big orthodontic ordeal.  We'll see how that all goes but I'm just happy to have next weekend to not think about work for a few days!  Meanwhile, here's what I wore this past Thursday and Friday for long hours of working.

Last week I wrote about how I was going to be giving a short presentation at a workshop I was going to on using iPads in the classroom.  I also wrote about how my presentation went really well and people were asking me all sorts of questions about how I use the iPads with my students.  Well, I guess I did a really good job because the district is now paying for me to have a sub on Wednesday of next week and I will be training a group of teachers from my school and two other schools as well on how I've been using the iPads.  Luckily, my assistant principal and friend will be doing the presentation with me.  Let me just say, I'm not a professional development person.  I don't like presenting to teachers and I would much rather be teaching my kids but I'm happy to help teachers and share ideas if I can.  I also will be having a substitute for two full days next week so to say the least, I'm going to be really busy over the next week, working on lesson plans and meeting with my AP to plan our presentation and posting will probably be sporadic at best.  So to make up for it, I've got two outfit posts today, including one with my sweet kitty in it.  Wish me luck next week!

This outfit is pretty much just a repeat of the exact same outfit I wore here.  Does it count as a different outfit if I change the shoes and belt?  If not, oh well.  I was comfortable and I had on a cute outfit.  Good enough for Monday!

I was going to wear the dress shown in this blog post (last time I wore it too) but then after I put it on this morning, I remembered why I never wear it... it's so uncomfortable!  I quickly put on this dress instead and I will be donating that periwinkle dress to someone who it either fits better or who doesn't mind suffocating all day as their girls are squished to death.

It's finally Friday!  I didn't post on Wednesday because I just wore my school shirt and jeans (which I wore a different version of again today) but I wanted to share Thursday's outfit and let you know that my presentation was a huge success on Wednesday!  People loved the movie I made on my iPad and lots of people came up to me afterward to ask questions about how they could incorporate what I was doing in their class or how to do this or that on their iPad.  This week was really busy but great and I'm glad it's Friday so I can recharge my batteries and prepare some fun stuff for my class.  Oh, and sleep in!  And next week, I'm back to regular clothes and only jeans on Fridays.

Best Day Ever

So I took an outfit photo this morning.  Only one, since I was in a hurry.  It turns out it is blurry and you can't see anything.  Oops.  So instead of an outfit post, you get a "Best Day Ever" teacher post with screenshots from one of my student's projects that almost made me cry.

my amazing photography work
I had the best day ever at work today.  I got there super early (6:30 AM) to get everything set up because I knew it was going to be a busy day.  The teachers on my team started off our day by having a meeting with our administration at a local coffee shop.  Anyone who is a teacher or knows a teacher knows that this sort of thing never happens.  We never get to leave campus unless the students are not there.  It was awesome!  And our boss bought us coffee and breakfast if we wanted it!  I got an iced Samoa coffee and it was so good!

We got back to campus about one minute late and all of our students were quietly and calmly waiting for us to get back.  My students were really well behaved all day and we did some really fun activities today.  For lunch, our school bought the teachers an amazing fried chicken catered lunch for teacher appreciation week, complete with an entire table of desserts.

After lunch, the students showed some iMovies they had been working on.  Every student had to create a movie trailer about how we use our iPads in fifth grade and we're going to be showing the movies to fourth grade classes in a few weeks.  If my students finished their trailer early, I let them make a school-appropriate video of their choice.  Well one of my students had been making a secret "Mrs. S Rocks!" movie for me for teacher appreciation week!  I seriously almost cried, it was one of the nicest things any student has ever done for me.  Also, several other students came up to me earlier in the day to personally tell me things like this:

"Thank you for teaching me how to do fractions.  I've never been good at it but you taught me how to multiply and divide fractions in two days!"

"Thank you for working so hard to make using iPads fun!  You really work hard for us and I appreciate it!"

"Thanks for making us videos to watch when you are absent.  I know it's probably a lot of work but it really helps me get better at math!"

Sometimes teaching can be really thankless and often times you work so hard and never see the kids make much progress so to have them go out of their way to sincerely say thank you and be so detailed about what they are thankful for... it's very rewarding, especially after a day like yesterday where I put in ten hours for the same amount of pay.

Then after that, we had our local high school choir come over and perform for the kids and one of the sixth graders asked if I went to school at the elementary school where I teach!  I guess I'm aging well!  LOL

It was basically a great day and I'm really looking forward to tomorrow as well.  I will be at a training for the iPads so I won't be with my students but I left them lots of stuff to do on their iPads.  I'll be presenting first thing in the morning at my training about how to use videos as an instructional tool.  I get to meet my friend M for breakfast at Panera before the training and we get an hour long lunch during the day (also never happens for a teacher) so I'm really stoked about tomorrow as well!

And for your enjoyment and mine, here are some screenshots of her video.

Wow, that's really close up!

Since this is teacher appreciation week, our administration has allowed us to wear jeans all week.  And I am so happy because today was a day for an easy outfit.  I was in a hurry to get to work today because I knew this is going to be a busy week and I had a ton of stuff to get done today.  Nothing like waking up and throwing on a pair of jeans, sandals, and a loose flowy top.  Done and done!  I ended up working from 6:45 AM to 4:45 PM today, with no extra pay.  Hopefully it will pay off later this week.  For now, I'm off, as I'm still not done with everything I have to do.  *Sigh*  Is it summer yet?

Cold Snap

We had a weird cold snap today.  Yesterday it was 87 and today it was 67.  So weird.  But I'll take it, since it gave me a reprieve from the sweat and I got to wear a scarf and a cardigan without sweating to death.  Also, it's finally Friday!  Happy weekend, friends!

Not Much to Say

Not much to say today.  Pretty tired.  Is it the weekend yet?  Also, our head lice epidemic at work has doubled or maybe tripled.  It always seems that there is a sleepover at the same time that somebody has head lice.  I guess I should be glad that my parents never let me sleep over other people's houses as a kid.  I'll be sporting ponytails or some sort of hair updo until the parasites die down among our students.
